Program Description

Event Details

Like so many Americans whose family members served in World War Two, Bob Sheppard was an adult when he first learned the significance of his father, James’, military service.

For more than a decade, the former broadcast journalist has told his father’s story to audiences across the US, including commissioning a documentary, featuring images captured during combat and chronicling the elder Sheppard’s long career in aviation.

The longtime Kittery resident has expanded his presentation to include the story of two other men with connections to Maine and a Portsmouth High graduate who all served in the segregated US Army Air Force unit.

The younger Sheppard will be at the library sharing his fathers’ documentary as well as additional stories about the brave men and women who were part of the Tuskegee aviation experience.
