Event Details
When his U-2 spy plane was shot down over Soviet Russia in 1960, Francis Gary Powers was captured and put on trial on Soviet television and became one of the most controversial figures of the Cold War.
He was released in a prisoner exchange almost two years later - brought to life in the 2015 Tom Hanks film Bridge of Spies - and fully exonerated by the US government. Despite this, he suffered a damage reputation for the rest of his life.
His son will join us to share the definitive account of Powers’ experience, in the air, behind enemy lines, and back on the home front, during the long Cold War.
