Author Jennifer Richard Jacobson will be at the library as part of Kittery's town-wide Books & Big Ideas to talk about her novel, Paper Things.
"When forced to choose between staying with her guardian and being with her big brother, Ari chose her big brother. There’s just one problem—Gage doesn’t actually have a place to live.
Told in an open, authentic voice, this nuanced story of hiding in plain sight may have readers thinking about homelessness in a whole new way."
Jennifer, a graduate of Harvard Graduate School of Education, is the author of oodles of award-winning children’s books including Small as an Elephant (IRA Young Adult’s Choice, Parents’ Choice Gold Award), Paper Things (ILA Social Justice Award, NTCE Charlotte Huck Honorable Mention) and The Dollar Kids illustrated by Ryan Andrews (ABA IndieNext List and Bank Street Best Book of the Year). Her newest launches are a chapter book series: Twig and Turtle: Big Move to a Tiny House, a middle grade romance: Crashing in Love, and a picture book: Oh, Chickadee! She lives in Maine and when not writing, offers coaching and critiques.
This event is part of the spring portion of Books & Big Ideas, which focuses on the theme of housing. Kittery and Maine as a whole, are in a housing crisis, which means there is a shortage of affordable housing options available to residents and workers of all ages. The spring topic is “sponsored” by the Kittery Housing Committee and is part of their year-long community information drive.
Copies of Paper Things are available at the main circulation desk. All members of the community are invited to read and join the discussion.
